SkinPen® Microneedling is an outpatient procedure with minimal downtime, but you may experience some side effects during the healing process:

• Redness: Expect redness similar to a mild sunburn, which usually subsides within 24–48 hours.
• Swelling: Mild swelling may occur, especially after a deeper treatment, and typically resolves within a day or two.
• Tenderness: Your skin might feel tender to the touch, particularly in the first week following the procedure.
• Peeling: Some light peeling may occur in the first few days as your skin renews.

Most people can return to their normal activities within 24 hours. While makeup can help conceal any lingering side effects, waiting 24–48 hours before applying it is recommended to give your skin time to heal and reduce the risk of infection. If you have sensitive skin, you may consider waiting longer.

What to Expect During Your Treatment

A numbing cream is applied during the treatment. The SkinPen® device is then used to create micro-injuries in the treated areas. Most patients feel minimal discomfort, and the treatment time is 15 minutes.

After the treatment, you may experience some redness and mild swelling, like a sunburn, which will resolve in a day or two. Your skin will continue to improve over the next few weeks as collagen and elastin production increases, and you’ll see a smoother, more youthful skin.

• Sun Protection: Avoid direct sun and use sunscreen.
• Keep the treated area clean: Gently cleanse the area as needed.

• Avoid Makeup: Refrain from wearing makeup for at least 24 hours.
• Avoid Abrasive Products: Steer clear of abrasive or alcohol-based products during healing.
• Wait to Shower: Hold off on showering for 24 hours post-treatment to allow the microchannels to close.
• Follow-Up: Multiple sessions may be recommended for optimal results depending on your skin goals.
